SEOUL -- Element AI, a prominent artificial intelligence company based in Montreal, has become a new partner for LG Electronics' campaign to strengthen AI capabilities. The two companies would jointly research for the systematic development of AI and develop various technologies that can be applied to products and services.
The partnership was signed in a ceremony attended by Element CEO Jean-Francois Gagne and LG's chief technology officer Park Il-pyung ahead of this year's Consumer Electronics Show, an annual trade show in Las Vegas.
"In order for artificial intelligence to deliver a higher value to customers' lives, a clear direction is needed," Park said, adding LG would lead the systematic development of AI through cooperation with Element AI, which builds AI tools for enterprises.
In an effort to strengthen its presence in the global home appliance market, LG launched a smart electronics brand based on its AI platform "ThinQ", in December 2017. LG's AI technology was widely installed in smart home appliances and devices for connectivity. At CES 2020, LG will showcase two new models of premium 8K organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs equipped with a new AI processor chip.
At last year's CES, LG forged a partnership with Landing AI, founded by Andrew Nga who has been a leading AI expert. Landing AI provides deployment-ready AI solutions and enterprise-wide transformation programs for customers worldwide.
In December 2018, LG unveiled the new version of ThinQ that provides a customized user experience beyond the way of operating on simple commands. Users can enhance their experience and actively manages products for their best performance as the new platform helps users learn about a lot of features fast as it explains the detailed function of products by voice or text. If customers have trouble, voice or text will be given for a simple remedy.
