Get to grips with Wireless Sensor Networks & IoT. In this blog we have broke down what these terms mean and the differences and benefits of both.

The term “the internet of thing” is more encompassing of everything connected to the internet compared to “wireless sensors” and so it can be interpreted as a group of many IoT devices IoT is at a higher level than wireless sensors and wireless sensors are often used within an IoT system to gather information and data through a router to the internet in an IoT system. IoT encompasses everything connected to the internet made up of devices such as wearable sensors to smartphones. Connecting these devices with automated systems allows information to be gathered and analysed to create an action. IoT allows devices on closed private internet connections to communicate with each other giving the devices the opportunity to communicate with different network types and create a connected world. IoT offers the opportunity to be more efficient in things that may be time-consuming and can allow a lot of company to re-think how they deliver their services. As IoT continues to grow you can expect to see more innovative sensor applications changing industries for the better. Helping IoT transform our word is the wireless sensor technology, continue reading to find out more!

Sensors directly send their information to the internet in an IoT system but with Wireless Sensor Networks there is no direct connection to the internet. Instead, there are sensors connected to a router or central node.

An IoT system can use a wireless sensor network by communicating with its router to gather data.

Wireless Sensors Networks

Wireless sensor networks are becoming more common in the world, mainly because they are cheaper to install and easy to maintain. In addition to this, wireless sensor networks allow for a greater level of flexibility which makes it easier to adapt a sensor system to the needs of the user. Wireless sensors and devices can also help make our world a more sustainable place by reducing the need for metals and other resources.

Wireless Sensors allows us to collect information about our surrounding environments with very little manual effort. Devices that use wireless technology are everywhere in the modern world. Wireless sensors can tell you a lot about the condition of your machinery. This can depend on your business and the applicate of your wireless sensors. There is a variety of different measurements such as vibration, bearing condition and temperature.

The major advantage of wireless sensors is that they require low maintenances and only need a small amount of power to function, they can support IoT applications for years before you need to charge or change the battery
