Korea’s LG Household & Health Care Ltd. said Wednesday it has replaced simple office labor with robotic process automation (RPA) software-powered machine to accelerate digital transition.

The RPA system learns the daily work process by computers to perform the automation of simple, tedious office tasks, enabling workers to focus on higher value work.

The company currently uses the software in 249 tasks from access to corporate systems to download of data and e-mailing, which would otherwise call for 237 workers to spend 39,000 hours per year.

Nearly 95 percent of all assigned tasks are successfully done by the robot in eight divisions for marketing, accounting and sales.

The software robots are now registered as employees on the company’s intranet homepage.

LG Household & Health Care is planning to expand the use to all its divisions to save costs and improve work efficiency. “Robots will be in charge of simple, repetitive tasks, while workers focus on analyzing and solving more complicated issues, to save costs and stir synergy in the company,” said an official at LG Household & Health Care.
